Mining News Pro - Civmec has secured a port infrastructure contract at BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA)’s Hay Point Coal Terminal in Central Queensland.
This pushes Civmec’s order book for the current financial year to over $1.1 billion.
The project includes the supply, fabrication, surface treatment and assembly of more than 13,500 tonnes of wharf girders and associated structures.
It will employ over 350 people during fabrication and assembly at Civmec’s Henderson facility in Western Australia.
Civmec will start procurement and shop detailing activities immediately, with fabrication set to take place in the June quarter of 2021.
Loadout onto heavy lift vehicles is scheduled to start early the following year, with the last vessel planned for loadout in the June quarter of 2022.
Civmec chief executive Patrick Tallon said the contract award was the second significant package of works that the company had been trusted to deliver for the Hay Point port upgrade.
“We look forward to delivering a high-quality product to McConnell Dowell to allow them to have a seamless installation at the site location and welcome the opportunity to work alongside all stakeholders on this project,” he said.
Earlier this year, BMA signed a contract with McConnell Dowell to upgrade the shiploader two and berth two at the Hay Point terminal.
The contract comes as one of the berths and shiploaders at Hay Point have reached the end of their lives.
The project was expected to complete in 2023.
The Hay Point terminal primarily exports metallurgical coal from BMA’s mines in Central Queensland’s Bowen Basin.
