Sandvik connects third-party equipment with Automine
Mining News Pro - Sandvik has released the AutoMine Access API, the mining industry’s first interoperability platform for autonomous fleets, which connects non-Sandvik equipment.

According to Mining News Pro - Announced earlier in the year at Goldcorp’s Disrupt Mining event, the AutoMine Access API is now on the market as Sandvik’s staple mine automation and digitalisation system.

The AutoMine Access API provides mines to connect non-Sandvik equipment as well as its own.

Patrick Murphy, president Rock Drills & Technologies of Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology said, “As a world leader in underground automation, we have a responsibility to make this game-changing technology easier to implement for the mining industry.”

AutoMine connects third-party loaders and trucks via pre-defined interfaces, enabling management and control from one system.

An API (Application Programming Interface) is a set of functions allowing the creation of applications, thus the access to features or data of an operation system or other service.

AutoMine is a milestone in the company’s step to drive a digital ecosystem to make mining smarter, safer and more productive.

Its momentum follows the acquisition of Newtrax, a leader in wireless IoT connectivity for underground and hard rock mining, and Sandvik’s initial announcement that My Sandvik would also be available for non-Sandvik equipment.

“While we think customers will achieve the highest performance with Sandvik equipment, we recognise the need to unlock automation’s full potential for all equipment regardless of manufacturer,”

As Sandvik’s back catalogue of tools and machinery for connectivity is streamlining digital solutions for fleets, their capabilities extending to non-Sandvik brands kickstarts productivity for the mining industry.

“Sandvik has been leading the market in underground digitalisation for years, with thousands of pieces of equipment around the world connected to our digital technology,” Murphy said.

“As more customers embark on their digital journeys, interoperability will be a requirement. We are proud to leverage our experience to drive digitalisation further in the mining industry.”
