Dana donates support and supplies to electric vehicle training

As a leader in aftermarket parts and automotive supplies like drivetrains, sealants and thermals, Dana recognised the market had been demanding skills in these future-focused technologies.

The Queensland Government also recognised this demand when it invested $6.65 million into upgrades at the TAFE Queensland campus, south of Brisbane.

The funding included upgrades to the Acacia Ridge Heavy Plant (Automotive) Centre of Excellence.

Minister for Training and Skills Development Di Farmer said it was all part of the Government’s economic recovery from COVID-19.

“The work here at Acacia Ridge is part of the $220 million the Palaszczuk Government has invested into rebuilding and renewing TAFE campuses across Queensland,” Farmer said.

“As Queensland moves towards a greener future, the new Heavy Plant Centre of Excellence will also help provide world-class training for the electric, hybrid and autonomous vehicle industry using new machinery which produces lower emissions.”

Dana not only supported the development of the curriculum, but also supplied two sets of Dana TM4 SUMO motors and CO150 inverters which trainees will find in the Sandvik Artisan A18 battery-electric loader.

Dana managing director Nick Stavrakis said the company was well-equipped to provide comprehensive training in the field.

“Dana offers a full suite of electrified technologies for off-highway equipment, and we understand that the technicians of the future will require training to ensure they can safely manage the maintenance activities for these vehicles,” Stavrakis said.

“We are pleased to have the opportunity to partner with the TAFE of Queensland and our customer Sandvik to customise training to meet the unique needs of these important future career paths.”

Dana supports a wide range of vehicle manufactures with drive and motion systems; electrodynamic technologies, including software and controls; and thermal, sealing, and digital solutions.

The company is based in the US but works across six continents, employing 36,000 people to provide its maintenance and energy management solutions.
