Mining News Pro - Bravus Mining and Resources has awarded SMW Group a contract for Ultrahaul mine truck trays and a bore field maintenance program at its Carmichael coal project in Queensland.
The $3 million contract for the Rockhampton-based mining services company was part of the 88 per cent of Carmichael contracts awarded to local businesses.
Bravus chief executive officer David Boshoff said keeping contracts local was an important part of the project.
“There’s an extensive mining services knowledge base in our region, and it has always been our intention to use this and work with businesses based in central Queensland wherever possible,” Boshoff said.
Bravus chose SMW for its expertise in delivering the tailored Ultrahaul trays, which will suit the operation’s fleet well.
“The Ultrahaul tray is a class-leading product for mine haul trucks that SMW Group has developed specifically for the central Queensland coal industry. The trays are tailored for our fleet of CAT796AC haul trucks and will help to maximise production and improve operational efficiency,” Boshoff said.
“We have been impressed by SMW Group’s willingness to work with us to get the product right for our operations and look forward to seeing the results of this relationship over time.”
The Ultrahaul trays provide 40 per cent more efficiency, according to SMW Group, while requiring zero maintenance to save on cost of ownership.
SMW chief operating officer Frank Humphreys said the company was pleased to represent Queensland-based companies with a significant contract.
“Securing a contract to supply Ultrahaul trays to the Carmichael project is a great outcome for SMW Group and is a vote of confidence for central Queensland’s mining services industry,” Humphreys said.
“We are excited to be involved with a high-profile operation like the Carmichael project.”
Bravus stated it will ship first coal this year, as construction on its coal handling and processing plant continues.
