Mining News Pro - SIMPEC expects to enhance its ability to win work in Western Australia’s Pilbara region after forming a joint venture (JV) with Aboriginal-owned mining and civil works service company, IronMerge.
The 50:50 JV will allow SIMPEC and IronMerge to win contracts jointly or separately as they collaborate in construction and service projects in and around the Pilbara region.
SIMPEC stated that JV activities would commence immediately.
SIMPEC managing director Mark Dimasi said that this was a milestone achievement not only for SIMPEC but also director Ian Taylor and his IronMerge team.
“This is a very proud moment for all of us and I sincerely look forward to seeing this JV relationship delivering sustainable outcomes to our businesses and equally to Aboriginal business and communities,” he said.
Through the JV, IronMerge and SIMPEC will be project and service delivery partners while supporting Indigenous employment in the Port Hedland region.
IronMerge provides civil work services to the mining industry across the Pilbara region, including earthworks, dewatering and above ground and below ground pipeline infrastructure.
The Nyamal family business also has access to the largest horizontal directional drilling (HDD) fleet in Australia, with 10 rigs including four maxi rigs and large diameter bores.
IronMerge has been sub-contracted by NRW Holdings at Fortescue Metals Group’s Iron Bridge magnetite JV project in Western Australia last year.
