Northern Star on path to boost Jundee capacity
Mining News Pro - DRA Global has completed the installation of a ball mill circuit at Northern Star Resources’ Jundee gold mine in Western Australia.

These works fell under its engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) contract at the site.

They included engineering design, procurement, project management, construction management and commissioning services that were directed towards the 4.5 megawatt ball mill circuit.

Jundee’s existing 2.5 megawatt ball mill and related infrastructure have since been decommissioned.

The project was delivered six weeks ahead of schedule, which DRA credited towards its project team collaborating with Northern Star’s project and operations team, equipment vendors and construction subcontractors.

DRA also highlighted the success of delivering the 35-week project amid the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused the project schedule to be accelerated.

Northern Star general manager processing Simon Tyrrell credited DRA’s ability to surpass performance expectations at Jundee through its collaborative efforts.

The EPCM contract preceded plant upgrades and studies completed by DRA at Jundee within the last four to five years.

Since the new ball mill circuit’s installation, Jundee’s process plant has ramped up to run beyond its design capacity.

DRA is a global engineering, project delivery and operations management group that is based in Perth.

It has more than 4500 people employed across the globe through 18 offices.

The Jundee gold mine is located in Western Australia’s Northern Goldfields region and was acquired by Northern Star in 2014.
