The prevailing prices for 450mm UHP graphite electrode are being heard in the range of RMB 63,000-70,000/MT (USD 9,245 – 10,245/MT), 600mm UHP graphite electrode are at RMB 90,000-110,000/MT (USD 13,170 – 16,100/MT) and 700mm UHP graphite electrode are in the range of RMB 130,000-145,000/MT (USD 19,000 – 21,220/MT).
The key reason for the same as informed by the sources is enough GE supplies in the market.
“Few of the graphite electrode manufacturing companies which have shut down last year are back in the market with new equipment and controlled emission levels, whereas some new manufacturers have also entered the GE market amid buoyancy in its demand”, quoted a local GE trader in China.
Although the price of GE in China’s domestic market is currently weak, in case of raw materials, the price of upstream needle coke and petroleum coke is going strong. It is being anticipated that the price of graphite electrode will stabilize in the short term.
In case of Japan, the contractual prices for GE for an ongoing quarter of Jul to Sep’18 are heard to be in the range of 1,100,000 – 1,300,000 yen per tonne (USD 9,900 – 11,700/MT). Whereas the graphite electrode prices in India for HP grade 450mm is trending at INR 975,000/MT (USD 14,180/MT) and for UHP grade 600mm at INR 995,000/MT (USD 14,470/MT).
