Mining News Pro - BHP will progress to phase three of its minerals targeting agreement with SensOre after receiving encouraging outcomes from a discovery exercise.
The mining giant first hired SensOre to help support its exploration activity at the Nickel West operations in Western Australia in September 2020.
Their agreement involves the use of SensOre’s discriminant predictive targeting (DPT) technology and auxiliary systems to target new commodity and deposit types.
BHP aims to enhance its resource position at the Nickel West project through exploration and processing innovation.
SensOre has met or exceeded the requirements set for phases one and two, with chief executive Richard Taylor describing the companies’ relationship as “incredibly valuable”.
“The results derive from the truly joint nature of the project and shared view that better use of geoscience data will lead to improvements in discovery rates. We are really thrilled with the results,” Taylor said.
Under the agreement, the DPT technology is focussed on targeting commodity-specific deposit types in a predetermined search space.
DPT combines the power of artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies to predict size, footprint, grade and depth that results in smaller tenure footprint.
SensOre will receive fees from this exercise and receive payments for the discoveries unveiled using the technology, which it claims to be lower in costs per discovery and commodity unit.
The DPT technology has extracted, cleaned and integrated more than 6.5 million surface samples and 250 million drill hole samples in Western Australia.
