Mining News Pro - Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology has signed a lease to build a workshop in Perth to better serve Western Australian mining and construction customers.
Construction of the workshop is now under way and scheduled to complete in 2021.
The 16,000 square metre site is located at the Roe Highway logistics park in Kenwick, Perth and will feature a workshop, office, meeting facilities and testing and training equipment.
Sandvik business line manager – service in Australia Pacific (APAC) Nathan Cunningham said Roe Highway was a tactical choice to enhance Sandvik’s support for its Australian customers.
“The strategic location of our new workshop, with its central position, freight rail and RAV7 truck access will enable us to further support our Western Australian customers and the purpose-build design will improve equipment repairs, inspections and our rebuild capability for our equipment offering,” he said.
“The improved layout, increased size, additional bays and design will enable our fully-trained service technicians, aftermarket support and technology specialists the ability to work more efficiently.”
Cunningham said Sandvik would continue to invest in facilities that would support demand for its future electric load and haul products.
Sandvik sustainability, marketing and communications manager Kate Bills said the facility had also been designed to meet Sandvik’s 2030 sustainability business goals.
Bills said the use of solar panels, green concrete and low carbon building materials would achieve the company’s goal.
It will also include energy efficient lighting, natural ventilation and rainwater harvesting.
“As part of Sandvik’s sustainability goals, we’re aiming to halve our carbon dioxide footprint by 2030. The new workshop incorporates state-of-the-art design elements to help us achieve this such as solar panels, green concrete and the use of low carbon building materials,” she said.
