Mining News Pro - Capricorn Metals has awarded a contract to Way Electrical for plant electrical installation at the Karlawinda gold project in Western Australia.
Capricorn stated that this was the final significant construction contract for the build of the processing plant.
The contract, valued at around $5 million, is in line with Capricorn’s budget estimate and will help reduce cost risks as construction at Karlawinda advances.
Capricorn’s gas pipeline operator APA has also awarded a pipeline construction contract to McConnell Dowell.
The latter is mobilising to site with a view to start construction next month.
Once operational, the pipeline will transport around three terajoules of gas per day from the Goldfields Gas Pipeline to the Karlawinda project for power generation.
Alongside these awards, Capricorn has fired the first blast of waste rock in the Bibra open pit following MACA’s mobilisation of mining equipment to site as Karlawinda’s open pit earthmoving contractor.
This marked the start of open pit mining activities at Karlawinda.
“The development of Karlawinda is proceeding on time and on budget,” Capricorn chairman Mark Clark said.
“We continue to achieve important milestones on the path to an efficient completion of development and de-risking of the transition to operations.
“We look forward to commencing Australia’s next new gold mine at a 110,000-125,000 ounce per annum run rate in mid-2021.”
