Mining News Pro - Decmil has continued its relationship with Fortescue Metals Group after securing a surface water management contract at the Cloudbreak iron ore mine in Western Australia.
Fortescue subsidiary Chichester Metals awarded the $4.2 million contract to install five sets of culverts, taking Decmil’s work in hand to around $570 million.
The construction is expected by November 2021, with design components of the work also included.
The project delivery company had just completed a $41 million contract in May 2021 at Fortescue’s Iron Bridge magnetite joint venture.
The Iron Bridge contract involved the design and construction of a bulk fuel storage and transfer facility, a mobile maintenance complex with workshops, warehouses and a satellite office, and other site service facilities.
When the contract was awarded in September 2020, Decmil chief executive officer Dickie Dique said it was a catalyst for the company to receive further work in iron ore and the region.
Dique has been proven right in 2021, as Decmil has also received a $6.2 million contract extension in the Murray Goldfields and Goulburn region.
The extension came from Victoria’s Department of Environmental, Land, Water and Planning for design and construction of four additional crossings and a landslip repair.
This crucial infrastructure project will enable firefighting and logging vehicles to safely access the region.
Also on Decmil’s books is Rio Tinto’s $30 million Mesa J contract, awarded in November 2020.
The Mesa J iron ore mine works involved design and construction of heavy and light vehicle facilities, and are expected to be complete by the end of 2021.
