Mining News Pro - Lucara Diamond Corporation has recovered a 393.5 ct top white Type IIa gem-quality diamond from its 100%-owned Karowe diamond mine in Botswana.
The diamond was recovered from direct milling of ore sourced from the M/PK(S) unit of the south lobe of the mine.
The 393 ct diamond is the seventh diamond greater than 300 ct to be recovered at Karowe in the year to date and the third gem-quality diamond of greater than 300 ct produced from the M/PK(S) unit this year.
A 341 ct diamond was recovered on January 14, and a 378 ct diamond on January 26.
Lucara recently also recovered a 156.2 ct top white gem-quality diamond, also from the processing of M/PK(S) material.
CEO Eira Thomas says the most recent recovery continues to demonstrate the strong and consistent resource performance of the south lobe.
“The 393 ct and the 156 ct diamonds add to the collection of significant diamond recoveries in 2021, as Lucara looks to ramp up construction activities for the proposed underground expansion at Karowe.”
