Introducing Copper to the World 2021

Introducing Copper to the World 2021
Mining News Pro - Copper to the World returns in 2021, presented live at the Adelaide Convention Centre and simultaneously live-streamed to attendees located around the world.
  Zoom:

The event will once again showcase some of the state’s key copper mining operations but this year it will also expand to take in the perspectives of actors further down the supply chain.

Georgina Hallet, Chief of Staff at the London Metal Exchange (LME), will outline the perspective of the world’s largest metals exchange, while Flavia Tata Nardini of Fleet Space Technologies and Harrison Mitchell of RCS Global Group will both discuss the role of copper within the space sector and in the EV-led green transition respectively.

The conference will also hear from Bloomberg Intelligence’s Senior Analyst for Metals & Mining, Yi Zhu, who will offer an overall insight into the global copper market.

At last year’s event participant poll nearly two thirds (65 per cent) claimed that innovation and sustainability were the two areas where the South Australian copper sector can show global leadership.

As a result, the event this year will feature several sessions looking at the sustainable copper production and sustainable copper supply chains. How the copper sector itself is innovating as well as contributing to innovation will also be explored.

Continuing the theme of innovation, Copper to the World will also host Dr Kathy Ehriq who will be presented with the inaugural Roy Woodall Medal, which commemorates the world-renowned earth scientist for his exploration achievements.

Woodall’s scientific approach to exploration, coupled with his use of the latest geological techniques, contributed greatly to the discovery of the Kambalda Nickel Field (1964), uranium at Yeelirrie (1971), and to the Olympic Dam copper-gold-uranium deposit (1975). Dr Kathy Ehriq played a critical role in the emergence of Olympic Dam as a world class copper asset.

As well as a key moment to take stock of the copper market globally and here in Australia, the event on 31 August is a major opportunity for the industry to convene and network at the in-person event in Adelaide.

It marks a significant return to the information sharing and networking that made the event a key date in the copper market calendar, while the live broadcast will enable copper industry representatives from around the world to hear latest sector updates.
