Mining News Pro - Roy Hill has awarded Aqura Technologies a contract to deliver a private 4G mobile network at its iron ore mine in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
The contract involves the design, installation and commission of the private LTE (long-term evolution) network’s first phase.
Aqura stated the majority of the contract will be completed in the 2022 financial year.
While the total value of the project was not revealed, the works will provide an estimated 10 per cent of Aqura’s 2021 financial year revenue.
According to Aqura, the final project sum will be determined when the works are finalised.
Aqura Technologies chief executive officer Travis Young said the company has fast-tracked early works due to its engagement with Roy Hill.
“Our engagement with the Roy Hill team has been highly rewarding as we have been able to work collaboratively and progress a very insightful review to truly understand the outcomes that Roy Hill is looking to gain,” he said.
“With this foundation, our team has been able to fast-track early works. With this early work and the support of the Roy Hill team, we are very confident of a highly successful project delivery.”
The first phase of works at Roy Hill are expected to be completed in August 2021.
Aqura has delivered private 4G LTE networks since 2016 to major mining companies including Rio Tinto and OZ Minerals.
Roy Hill is chaired by Gina Rinehart, with its namesake mine containing an initial mine life of 17 years.
It is anticipated to produce 72 million tonnes per annum of wet run-of-mine (ROM) ore feed for the processing plant.
