Mining News Pro - SIMPEC has won an electrical, instrumentation and communication contract at Fortescue Metals Group’s Solomon Hub iron ore operations in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.
The WestStar Industrial subsidiary will work with Central Systems, the contract awarder, to supply and install electrical, instrumentation and communication works for Solomon’s central facilities workshop yard.
Central Systems is Fortescue’s design and construct contractor at Solomon Hub.
The workshop yard will house various workshops, facilities and non-process infrastructure in one location.
SIMPEC advised that the $7 million contract had commenced, ahead of its targeted completion in the third quarter of this year.
SIMPEC managing director Mark Dimasi said the large project allowed the company to showcase its true electrical and instrumentation capabilities.
“A big thank you to Central Systems for supporting our team and allowing us to work alongside you on this prestigious project,” he said.
The Solomon Hub will also house the trial of a SciDev chemistry after the company won a tender process to participate in a one-week qualification trial with Fortescue.
The field qualification will focus on the performance of SciDev’s MaxiFlox chemistry under plant operating conditions.
MaxiFlox is used in wastewater treatment in solid liquid separation processes.
SciDev managing director Lewis Utting said with water being a premium commodity in the Pilbara, SciDev’s technology could add real benefit to its customers as well as reduce their environmental footprint.
“The continued growth of SciDev and our ability to work with and service major mining companies such as Fortescue highlights the caliber of the SciDev team in executing the technical and commercial evaluations with our customers,” he said.
The trial is worth $60,000 in revenue to SciDev.
