Mining News Pro - Fortescue Metals Group has awarded Central Systems a design and construction contract at the Solomon Hub iron ore mine in Western Australia
The $57.5 million contract, set to be completed by June 2021, will involve design and construction of central facilities at the mine.
Solomon Hub comprises the Firetail and Kings Valley mines which have a combined production capacity of 70-75 million tonnes per year. It is located 60 kilometres north of Tom Price and 120 kilometres west of Fortescue’s Chichester Hub.
Operations at Solomon Hub commenced in May 2013 at the Firetail mine, with Fortescue approving $20 million in financial support to nine of Solomon’s Aboriginal contractors earlier this year.
Fortescue is aiming to expand its Solomon Hub operations to the Queens Valley mining area to bolster production of its Kings Fines product.
Central System, a subsidiary of the Resource Development Group (RDG), is a multi-disciplined construction contractor that provides remedial and maintenance services.
It operates in the mining, energy and infrastructure sectors of Australia and has previously been involved with BHP, Fortescue, Rio Tinto and Newcrest.
In the media release, parent company RDG also announced the commencement of a 3-month drilling program at its manganese tenements at Ant Hill and Sunday Hill in Western Australia.
