Mining News Pro - Operations at the Neves-Corvo mine, in Portugal, have been suspended, following the death of a longtime employee at the mine on Friday.
The accident occurred in an active production heading that was undergoing scaling activities, diversified miner Lundin Mining reported on Monday.
The Canada-based mining firm said that it was investigating the accident and also retaining a third party to conduct an independent investigation.
Operations were planned to resume mid-week, with the exception of mining activities in the immediate area of the accident.
"Over the coming days, we will be holding safety stand-downs at all of our operations globally to reflect on the loss of our colleague and remind ourselves how we can keep each other safe,” said president and CEO Marie Inkster.
