Mining News Pro - Evolution Mining has evacuated its workforce at the Red Lake underground operation in Ontari
The company has activated its emergency response plan and suspended operations at the Red Lake mine temporarily.
The mine has been evacuated and all Evolution employees and contractors are safe and accounted for.
Evolution reported no damage to any infrastructure at the operation.
“Evolution is working with authorities and the community to help contain the forest fire and provide assistance where needed,” the company stated in an ASX announcement.
The Red Lake residents were evacuated on Monday evening (August 10).
Evolution expects no material impact on its September quarter gold production.
The Red Lake operation has a 13-year mine life, with drilling program scheduled for the 2021 financial year to prove the potential for further high-grade mineralisation.
Evolution acquired the Red Lake mine for a total consideration of $US375 million ($612 million) from Newmont in April.
