Mining News Pro - Peru’s Antamina said on Monday that it would halt all operations for at least two weeks to mitigate the spread of covid-19.
According to Mining News Pro - The Antamina mine had previously been doing essential work in production and maintenance since Peru, the world’s no. 2 copper producer, imposed a national state of emergency in mid-March.
Antamina, one of the largest copper/zinc mines in the world, also produces lead and silver.
BHP and Glencore each have 33.75% stakes in Antamina. Teck Resources holds a 22.5% stake in the mine and Mitsubishi Corporation holds 10%.
Antamina produced 101 million tonnes of copper in 2019.
