Mining News Pro - Peabody Energy has inked a deal with SCE to transport coal wash reject from its Metropolitan mine at Helensburgh to a number of tipping locations at Illawarra, New South Wales.
According to Mining News Pro - The transport routes include the new M1 Princes Motorway between Yallah and Oak Flats to bypass Albion Park Rail.
SCE’s contract is worth an estimated $14 million during the initial three-year period, with options for a further two years.
The company will provide a fleet of up to 25 semi-trailers to transport the coal wash reject from the mine site with the capability to flex down and up, depending on demand.
Metropolitan is one of the oldest continually operating coal operations in Australia and has been a central part of the Helensburgh community for over 130 years.
SCE will be moving 400,000 tonnes per annum under the agreement, with special consideration to be given to the Helensburgh community to ensure minimal heavy vehicle impact operation between 7am-5pm, including operating outside school zone hours.
This is part of the company’s intention to consider the environment surrounding its operations, according to SCE transport and logistics manager Paul Minogue.
“As always, our top priority is to ensure we move all materials safely while also taking into consideration the communities in which we operate,” he said.
SCE has specialised within the mining services industry, providing stockpile management, emplacement services, civil projects, water management and transport solutions.
It also provides services for customers in the industrial, steel, manufacturing, agriculture, waste, building and construction and mining sectors.
