Mining News Pro - WestStar-owned construction company SIMPEC has received a contract from MSP Engineering for works at Talison’s Greenbushes lithium operations in Western Australia.
WestStar-owned construction company SIMPEC has received a contract from MSP Engineering for works at Talison’s Greenbushes lithium operations in Western Australia.
SIMPEC will design and build water tanks for plant processing at the mine’s upcoming Chemical Grade Plant 2 project (CGP2 project) under the terms of the $2.7 million contract.
The CGP2 project will be commissioned in the second quarter of 2019 and is intended to double the Talison mine’s capacity to 1.34 million tonnes of lithium concentrate per year (1.34Mt/y). The tanks are expected to be delivered to the mine — already the world’s largest for lithium — over a six-month period.
MSP and SIMPEC already have an established relationship at Talison’s Greenbushes operations. Earlier this month, SIMPEC announced a contract scope extension for a February 2018 contract with MSP for the supply of and installation of high-voltage and fibre optic cables and corresponding concrete cable pits at the site for $1.5 million.
SIMPEC managing director Mark Dimasi said the tanks contract was the culmination of months of effort from the SIMPEC team.
“We are very excited about our increasing involvement in the CGP2 project,” he said.
“We are optimistic that our work here will translate into further awards and even greater market traction.”
