The contract is worth approximately $290 million.

Primero will process run of mine ore at a rate of about two million tonnes per annum and produce an output of about 400,000 tonnes per annum of spodumene concentrate, feeding Covalent’s Kwinana lithium hydroxide conversion refinery.

Primero’s work covers the vertical delivery of engineering design of all disciplines and the procurement of all equipment and materials.

They will also deliver site construction, commissioning and performance testing of the spodumene concentrator at Mt Holland.

With the execution of the contract to commence immediately, site works are planned to begin in October. The expected peak workforce is forecasted to be 350 personnel.

Primero managing director Cameron Henry said the contract is a big scalp for the company.

“The award of the Mt Holland EPC contract is the culmination of an 18-month journey with the Covalent Lithium team and demonstrates the trust and solid working relationship between the groups in the development of the project,” he said.

“This project is not only a flagship project for Primero and our parent company NRW Holdings, but also a major project for Western Australia and the further development of the state’s battery minerals supply chain. We look forward to the challenge and ongoing relationship with Covalent.”

The contract comes after NRW announced this week that its wholly-owned subsidiary Golding Contractors had signed a five-year contract extension with Southern Cross Fertilisers.

Valued at between $110 million and $120 million over the journey, the contract renewal extends Golding’s mining contract at Phosphate Hill until 2026.
