AusIMM series to highlight next-generation mining

The four sessions, in either panel discussion or fireside-chat format, will feature experts sharing their insights including METS Ignited chief executive officer Adrian Beer, PWC Australia national mining leader Debbie Smith and Metallurgical Systems founder and managing director John Vagenas.

AusIMM chief executive officer Stephen Durkin said the series has become a valued annual conversation to showcase the critical work of resources professionals.

“As the peak body and trusted voice for all people working in resources, we are proud to play a pivotal role to bring together respected industry leaders to share their knowledge on next generation mining,” Durkin said.

“Resources professionals are in the driver’s seat to help our industry deliver value for our communities and countries.

“Through these discussions, we will explore how everybody who works in mining has a part to play in creating a safe, sustainable and prosperous mining sector.”

The series will begin with a discussion on environmental, social and governance (ESG), and social responsibility in a modern mining landscape.

The panel session will explore the importance of ESG and how all people in resources can be equipped to deliver on best-practice ESG objectives into the future.

The second session, focused on future workforce, will discuss how a sustainable talent pipeline is vital to ensure the sector can continue to supply the world with necessary minerals and metals.

Hosted in a fireside-chat format, it will examine how businesses can develop future-ready skills and take lessons from other industries with similar challenges.

Technology and innovation will be covered in the third session, with a panel of experts taking a deep dive into the complex relationship between technology and people.

The discussion will ask how the industry can harness creative mindsets and modern technology to develop positive outcomes and a culture of innovation.

The fourth and final session will look at emerging critical minerals and how Australasia a global-leading position in this space.

The series will take place on August 19 and 26, and September 9 and 16.
