The new appointments are also on the back of the appointment of Richard Stewart as COO and Robert van Niekerk as CTO in February.

The new appointments include Themba Nkosi as chief social performance officer, to effect a tighter focus on Sibanye’s social performance strategy.

Lerato Legong has been appointed as chief legal officer, responsible for good governance and legal quality assurance for the group, while Bheki Khumalo has been promoted to human resources executive VP, with the responsibility for overseeing human resources management across the company.

The role of group protection services executive VP will be taken on by Nash Lutchman, who will assume responsibility for security across the group, while Dawie Mostert has been appointed chief organisational growth officer, with the responsibility of driving Sibanye’s organisational growth and development journey.

Taking on the role of chief commercial and development officer is Laurent Charbonnier, who will be primarily responsible for shaping the corporation’s growth through value-accretive external growth and associations with key customers.

William Taylor has also been appointed health and safety senior VP, taking over this role from Kobus de Jager, who is retiring after providing “invaluable support and guidance” over the past three years, according to the miner.

“We are grateful for the significant role [De Jager] has fulfilled in improving our operational safety performance and we are confident that [Taylor’s] appointment will secure strong leadership continuity in this critical aspect of our business,” states Sibanye.

Froneman says this leadership transition positions the group to take the corporation forward into the next phases of its strategic growth, taking an appropriately long-term view of the world in which it expects to operate.

“As the group has grown and evolved, we have continued to adapt our corporate structure to ensure efficient delivery of our strategic priorities.”

He adds that he is confident that these changes to the executive and additions to the senior leadership team will ensure the ongoing creation of value for all stakeholders as Sibanye executes its strategic intent and sustains its focus on operating excellence across the group.
