The trial was in partnership with drill rig supplier Titeline Drilling to improve fuel consumption and environmental sustainability.

Results of the trial were not disclosed in OZ’s June quarter report, however the company did discuss its alliance with Byrnecut and Sandvik.

The alliance was established to enhance innovation among the three companies over the June quarter and OZ stated progress was made on a number of projects as a result.

“Significant work was undertaken towards trialling the use of tele-remote loading of trucks, which has now been implemented in a key stope in July,” OZ stated.

At its Carrapateena Province copper-gold operation in South Australia, OZ also worked with Byrnecut Australia and Global Maintenance Upper Spencer Gulf to further acquaint with suppliers from the state’s gulf region.

A touring party visited 23 suppliers over three days to enable stronger relationships with the local suppliers, which is an important aim for OZ Minerals.

In Indigenous relations, OZ continued its annual relationship and performance health check with the Traditional Owners of the Prominent Hill Province, the Antakirinja Matu-Yankunytjatjara Aboriginal Corporation.

At Carrapateena, OZ hosted the Kokatha Aboriginal Corporation and Kokatha Enterprises boards for another health check on their relationship.

“The group spent two days learning from each other out on country, visiting parts of the operation and challenging each other to continue building a strong and enduring partnership,” OZ stated.

These developments came in conjunction with OZ’s sponsorship of the new Arkani Ngura Innovation and Technology Centre, which was funded by the State Government.

Touted as a National Test Mine, the centre will be fully developed by 2024 to allow businesses to trial their mining practices in a safe trial mine.
