Mining News Pro - Canada’s White Metal Resources announced that after receiving approval from the Namibian Ministry of Mines and Energy, it has started its 2020-21 exploration program on the Taranis copper-silver project.
Besides the exploration permit, White Metal received permission to re-log and re-sample historical reverse circulation drill hole sample chips stored at a government warehouse in the northern town of Tsumeb.
In a press release, the company said that in addition to the RC chip re-sampling, it is planning to complete a minimum 1,000-metre RC drilling program aimed largely at the historical Okohongo Cu-Ag deposit located within the project.
“The primary objective of the 2020-21 exploration program is to update historical mineral resources in the Okohongo deposit and complete a technical report and mineral resource estimate compliant with the National Instrument 43-101,” the media brief reads. “We will be conducting reconnaissance work over the entire exclusive prospecting licence, including follow up on a number of promising historical copper showings.”
Taranis covers about 19,850 hectares and its Okohongo copper-silver deposit is situated within the Kaoko Belt of northwest Namibia, about 700 kilometres northwest of the capital Windhoek.
According to White Metal, the deposit is hosted by metasedimentary stratigraphy and is considered to be analogous with the stratiform sediment-hosted Central African Copperbelt deposits of Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
“This deposit contains historical Inferred Mineral Resources of 10.2 million tonnes grading 1.12% Cu and 17.75 g/t Ag, using a 0.3% Cu cut-off,” the miner’s release states.
