AngloGold Ashanti Hospital brings 175 more beds to the West Rand
Mining News Pro - Gauteng acting health MEC Jacob Mamabolo says the planned AngloGold Ashanti Hospital will greatly contribute to the provision of quality healthcare services in the West Rand area of Gauteng.
  Zoom:

Gold miner AngloGold Ashanti has committed to the long-term investment that will help the Gauteng health system and the West Rand community respond to Covid-19 and other healthcare requirements.

The hospital will comprise 175 beds and will likely be classified as a regional hospital, which will help address the dire shortage of critical care beds in the West Rand district and relieve pressure from both Leratong and Carletonville hospitals.

The AngloGold Ashanti Hospital will form part of the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital Cluster, which focuses on general medicine, while also catering for mental health patients.

The Clinical Governance Advisory Committee and Mental Health Technical Advisory Committee will provide clinical advice on repurposing of the AngloGold Ashanti Hospital once there are no more Covid-19 admissions.

There are four academic hospital clusters in Gauteng: Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital, Steve Biko Academic Hospital, Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital and Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic.

Mamabolo states that the province is committed to investing in legacy projects beyond the Covid-19 pandemic through major refurbishments and additional beds at existing hospitals.
