According to Mining News Pro -Billet imports to Thailand reported an incline of 15% in the month of Jul’18 after continuous fall since Mar`18, the trade statistics released by the Thailand custom reported.
In the month of Jul’18, the nation has imported around 137,636 MT billet against 119,959 MnT in Jun’18. Prior to this, on M-o-M in Jun’18 it remains downside against 157,835 MT in May`18.
Japan was the major billet exporter to Thailand in Jul’18, which exported around 79,493 MT (57.75%), surge by 31% M-o-M; followed by Iran, China & Russia whose exports to the nation stood at 51,266 MT, 3,853 MT & 3,024 MT, respectively.
Further, on Y-o-Y in Jul 2018 imports registered a sharp rise of 100% against 69,080 MT in Jul 2017.
While the nation has imported about 1,253,400 MT Billet in Jan-Jul’18 against 1,146,528 MT in Jan-Jul’17, incline by 9.32% on yearly premises.
During this period (Jan-Jul’18), Iran has exported approximately 52.63% billet (659,685 MT) to the nation, followed by Japan (342,135 MT) & India (83,021 MT). Prior to this in the same preceding last year, Iran’s billet export to the nation was around 377,862 MT, surge almost 75% on yearly basis. While in CY 2017 (Jan-Dec) the country’s billet import was around 1,915,142 MT.
In the month of July 2018,Thailand’s monthly crude steel production hit 1 year high & stood at 415,000 MT and in CY18 (Jan-Jul) it was approximately 2,674,320 MT. Meanwhile, in CY17 the figure of crude steel production stood at 4.225,000 MT, & 3,879,246 MT in CY16.
Pig iron imports from Russia decreased :- Russia & India continues to remain the largest Pig iron supplier to Thailand. However in the month of Jul’18, no major imports reported, as in the last month good volume of pig iron imports were recorded. Further Japan & Brazil exported around 2,336 MT & 1,413 MT to Thailand.
In CY18 (Jan-Jul) - Russia & India was the major pig iron exporter to Thailand which exported about 83,297 MT (57.79%) & 29,882 MT (20.73%), respectively.
In context to export prices, global offers for steel grade pig Iron is assessed at USD 380-390/MT FoB India & USD 375-380/MT FOB Brazil.
