Mining News Pro - Fortescue Metals Group has awarded communications company Aqura Technologies with a $1.1 million infrastructure contract for the Kangi accomodation village in Western Australia.
Construction at the Kangi village, which is located at Fortescue’s Solomon mine site in the Pilbara region, was completed in early 2013.
Aqura will install an advanced fibre optic network upgrade at Kangi, which will enable the 1850-room village to deliver entertainment services and wellbeing programs to the site’s workforce.
The upgrade is expected to be completed by July this year, with the design phase already commenced.
Aqura chief executive Travis Young said the network upgrade would improve the wellbeing of staff, and would serve as a foundation for entertainment services.
“We’re pleased to kick off a new engagement with Fortescue who are looking to our in-house team to provide a high-quality foundation for their Kangi Village network,” he said.
“The contract award is testament to the strong quality and safety record of Aqura in the design and delivery of high- quality network infrastructure.
“We are very mindful of the benefits of this type of investment which fundamentally supports and enhances the positive wellbeing for FIFO (fly-in, fly-out) staff who are away from home for extended periods and need reliable infrastructure to support connections to family and friends.”
Aqura has previously delivered network solutions to BHP, Newmont, OZ Minerals and Abra Mining.
