Fortescue guides project development with contract awards
Mining News Pro - Fortescue Metals Group has signed an $80 million contract at the Solomon Hub and two contracts worth over $13 million at the Iron Bridge project in Western Australia.
  Zoom:

NRW Holdings subsidiary RCR Mining Technologies was granted the $80 million contract for the design and construction of a primary crushing plant and overland conveyor for the Queens Project at the Solomon Hub.

Primero received a sub-contract valued at $30 million from RCR Mining Technologies for engineering support and construction services at the project.

“The Integration of our new Minerals Energy and Technology team of RCR Mining Technologies, DIAB and Primero on a project such as this, combined with the NRW Civil and Mining team all focused on end-to-end delivery, is another milestone for the business,” NRW chief executive officer Jules Pemberton said.

Primero managing director and chief executive officer Cameron Henry said the contract demonstrates its relationship with RCR.

“The combined award of the Queens Crushing and Overland Conveyor package with RCR is the second package awarded of its type with Fortescue, and demonstrates the working relationship already built with the RCR teams,” he said.

“We look forward to once again delivering critical processing infrastructure, for a tier one iron ore client.”

Fortescue has also awarded two contracts to Aboriginal businesses for the Iron Bridge magnetite project in Western Australia.

Jukawalyi Resources and Yulu Joint Venture (JV), a company between Njamal Resources Enterprises and Icon SI (Aust) were granted the contracts that are worth a combined value of $13 million, under Fortescue’s Billion Opportunities program.

Jukawalyi will provide light vehicles for Iron Bridge, with Fortescue acting as guarantor for the purchase of the vehicles, while Yulu JV will conduct infrastructure works at the site, including designing and building the site’s laboratory building, main ore processing facility’s administration building and associated facilities.

Fortescue chief executive officer Elizabeth Gaines said the contracts will enhance both Aboriginal businesses.

“Fortescue is proud of our strong relationships with Native Title groups across the Pilbara, which is delivering significant benefits including jobs, training and business development opportunities for Aboriginal people, their families and their communities,” she said.

“Empowering businesses like Jukawalyi and Yulu JV to make long-term, beneficial business decisions is at the heart of our Billion Opportunities initiative. These contracts will provide the opportunity to build local capability and asset ownership for these local Aboriginal businesses.

Fortescue’s Billion Opportunities program has provided more than $2.7 billion in contracts to Aboriginal businesses and joint venture partners since 2011.

Both Jukawayli and Yulu JV are members of the Njamal Native Title group and are the Traditional Custodians of Iron Bridge’s land.
