Mining News Pro - Caterpillar has developed a Durilock shroud system for underground loader buckets that slashes maintenance time and allows for fast adaptation to application needs.
This fully integrated bucket system features 50 per cent faster, hammerless installation compared with legacy models as it does not require bolts to be re-torqued periodically, reducing ground engaging tools (GET) maintenance time by more than 50 per cent.
It also allows for maintenance free retention of GET with the Cat Infinitite elastomer compression retainers and the integral corner guards extend the bucket’s service time by around 30 per cent.
Cat Infinitite provides superior retention reliability without compromising on timeliness, with the elastomer compression retainer installing in just seconds without any complex hardware.
Cat’s Durilock system boasts three interchangeable shroud styles, enabling mining operations to quickly remove one type and replace with another better suited to the loader application without needing to change the base edge or retention system.
These three styles are D5OS Standard, which is the traditional wedge shape used in most production and development applications, the D50A Abrasion has a contoured design to position more materials on the shroud base while the D50P Penetration has less leading-edge material for easier penetration in dense material.
The different styles allow for mines to match the GET to their application and mine conditions.
Cat has also created a lip assembly to provide mounting surfaces for the shrouds and corner protectors for better balance and centre station wear rates, eliminating corner shroud torsional loads and better reliability.
The corner design boosts corner life by around 15 percent and improves penetration compared with systems that experience corner erosion and shorted bucket life due to corner rounding.
With the introduction of Durilock, Cat now has a complete portfolio of GET products designed to meet the requirements of any underground mine.
The Durilock shroud system is available for Cat R1700 to R3000 loaders and most other buckets of five to 10 cubic metre capacity.
