Mining News Pro - Thiess has secured a $340 million contract extension with Glencore to provide mining services at the Mt Owen coal operations in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales.
The 18-month extension will lengthen Thiess’ time at the Mt Owen mine since 1994 when it built the mine complex.
The Mt Owen mine processes up to 15 million tonnes a year of run-of-mine coal.
Under the new agreement, the CIMIC subsidiary will continue to provide mine planning, design and execution, drill and blast, overburden removal and coal mining services at Mt Owen.
“For more than 25 years, we have delivered industry-leading, specialised mining techniques at Mt Owen, leading to higher resource recovery, increased plant efficiency and reliable material movement for our client,” Thiess managing director Douglas Thompson said.
“Our team looks forward to continuing our long association with Glencore and the Hunter Valley community.”
Mt Owen is one of the three mines in the Hunter Valley where Thiess provides its services.
CIMIC group chief executive Juan Santamaria said, “This award reflects Thiess’ long-term commitment to provide value-add solutions for its clients.”
