Mining News Pro - Kalium Lakes has surpassed the halfway point for the development of its Beyondie sulphate of potash project in Western Australia.
The Beyondie project is now 52 per cent complete after the company started construction of the SOP processing plant during July and is now set to install underground services and commence civil and concrete works.
Kalium Lakes continued work on non-process infrastructure as well, including building 60 additional rooms for construction accommodation, two 110,000 litre diesel storage tanks, warehousing facilities, vehicle wash down and mobile equipment workshops.
It also progressed brine extraction and delivery infrastructure at Sunshine Lake, installing all brine high-density polyethylene (HDPE) piping, pending final connections to bore and trench pump stations, which is scheduled to occur this month.
Chief executive officer Rudolph van Niekerk said hitting the halfway point of development was a major milestone for the Beyondie project, putting it on track to start production in 2021.
“It is pleasing to see everything we have worked so hard to achieve during the past four years becoming a reality,” van Niekerk said.
“Having been involved in the project from inception as one of the founders, I am really excited about taking on the role of CEO and leading the project through to completion and into operations.
“Our team remains focussed on delivering a complete, comprehensive project that will not only meet construction targets but also meet expectations for production ramp-up and achieve the forecast production numbers.”
According to van Niekerk, planning has commenced for the commissioning of the processing facilities, along with implementation of operational readiness, placing Kalium Lakes in a prime position to commence production next year.
