Mining News Pro - IGO is set to begin drilling for nickel, copper and zinc at the Thunderdome joint venture project in the Fraser Range, Western Australia.
The Thunderdome project, which is a JV with Rumble Resources, is positioned 30 kilometres north east from Legend Mining’s Mawson nickel-copper discovery.
This next round of exploration, set to be completed by this June, includes aircore (AC) drilling at the Sailfish nickel-copper target and electromagnetic (EM) conductor surveys and broad spaced AC drilling at the Old Soldiers nickel-copper-zinc target.
IGO and Rumble Resources have also teamed up to explore the Thunderstorm project, which homes 13 kilometres of paleochannels and basement prospective for gold.
The company will be aircore drilling the Pion and Themis gold prospects and also nearby nickel-copper targets, along with further EM surveys.
Rumble Resources managing director Shane Sikora said the company is looking forward to recommencing exploration with IGO in the Fraser Range.
“The region has gained significant renewed interest thanks to a new nickel-copper discovery by Legend Mining at the Mawson prospect, only 30 kilometres along strike from our Thunderdome project, which has two exciting prospects to be drill tested,” Sikora said.
“Combine this with our compelling Lamil project in the Paterson province, another sought after exploration region due to the new Winu copper-gold discovery by Rio Tinto and we now have two projects to be drilled by JV partners in two of the most sought after regions in Australia, capable of tier 1, large scale discoveries.”
The Fraser Range is home to existing quality IGO sites, including the Nova nickel-copper-cobalt mine to the south and the IGO and AngloGold Ashanti JV the Tropicana gold mine to the north.
Along with the planned drilling at Thunderdome and Thunderstorm, IGO will also complete geophysical studies, hyperspectral studies of gold samples pulps and an honours project, which will investigate the morphology of intersected gold grains.
