Mining News Pro - Turkey scrap imports dropped 9% Y-o-Y to 18.8 MnT in CY19 Import volumes from US and Netherlands observed increase, however bookings from UK fell in CY19. Country’s crude steel output fell 9.6% Y-o-Y to 33.7 MnT in CY19.
According to Mining News Pro - South Korea’s import volumes for scrap rose 2% Y-o-Y to 6.25 MnT in CY19 South Korea’s scrap imports from US increased sharply on bulk bookings, but bookings from Japan inched down over strict checks on radio-active inspections of Japanese scrap carrying vessels.
Vietnam, witnessed a sharp increase in ferrous scrap imports in CY’19 and was recorded the highest volume at 5.2 MnT during the year, increasing by 8% Y-o-Y as against 4.8 MnT of scrap imported in CY`18. Scrap imports from Japan moved up by 42% and that from US by 19% Y-o-Y.
Import volumes in China witnessed major drop in their scrap imports by 86% Y-o-Y. On 1st Jul`19, China`s Ministry restricted imports of scrap with importers requiring proper permits. This resulted in drop in Chinese scrap imports.
