Mining News Pro - Lehigh Cement Co. LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Lehigh Hanson Inc., was awarded the 2019 Corporate Investment and Community Impact (CiCi) Award in the Corporate Investment category for economic development at its Mitchell plant.
According to Mining News Pro - Presented by Trade & Industry Development, all CiCi Award recipients have developed expansion, retention, and relocation plans that were formed in collaboration with local economic developers and state entities. All projects have the full potential to make a measurable impact on the communities in which they have chosen to expand. The new Lehigh cement plant is one of only 15 Indiana projects to receive a CiCi Award in the programs history. The program was established in 2005.
For the 14th annual 2019 CiCi Awards, Trade & Industry Development honored 30 winners from 28 different companies, who contributed a total capital investment of nearly US$20 billion for projects throughout the US.
In July 2018, Lehigh announced plans to invest more than US$600 million in a new cement plant in Mitchell, which will increase production capacity, while significantly reducing energy consumption and emissions per tonne of cement produced. Groundbreaking for the new plant is expected in 1Q20, with startup expected in 3Q22.
“We credit Lehigh’s success in Indiana to the abundant natural resources and business-friendly environment, as well as our commitment to the state and our long history and investment in the city of Mitchell,” said Tom Chizmadia, Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and Communications for Lehigh Hanson. “By honouring these impactful projects, Trade & Industry Development continues to support economic development and strong communities around the US.”
“We are honored that Lehigh’s new cement plant project in Mitchell is being recognized with this prestigious award,” said Jerry Miller, Mitchell plant manager. “Our dedication to this community has always been strong and this investment promises a confident future.”
