Mining News - Metalicity has identified new lithium targets at the Pilgangoora North lithium project, which is 10km from Altura Mining and Pilbara Minerals’ projects in the Pilbara, Western Australia.
Field work at two project target areas confirmed several pegmatites hosting anomalous lithium values associated with potash mica, with one in particular hosting anomalous lithium levels of 370 parts per million (ppm), tin (190ppm) and niobium (390ppm), a material useful for its superconductive properties in a variety of applications.
Metalicity acquired the Pilgangoora North project from Fortescue Metals Group at the start of 2017.
Matt Cauci, Metalicity managing director, said the company’s exploration program had confirmed the likely source granite for many pegmatites, with rare-element geochemical structures, as well as providing information to support further exploration of two target areas for lithium-bearing pegmatites.
The two areas are the PN2 and PN3 targets; the former comprises 3km along the southwest and the latter 5km along the northwest of the Motherin Monzogranite.
Metalicity is a Perth-based explorer that holds lithium, zinc and cobalt interests across Western Australia.
Its in-development Admiral Bay zinc project in the Canning Basin is considered one of the largest undeveloped zinc projects in the world with a projected value of up to $1.2 billion.
The company recently listed on the Canadian TSX exchange to attract more North American interest to the project.
