Mining News - Thiess has been awarded a $480 million contract by QCoal to continue operations at the QCoal Northern Hub in the Bowen Basin, Queensland.
The four-year contact will see the CIMIC Group-owned contractor continue to provide mining services at QCoal Northern Hub, which includes the Sonomoa, Sonoma North, Drake and Jax mines.
Thiess’ scope of works includes mine planning, drill and blast, overburden removal and coal mining at the Northern Hub, which produces a combination of hard coking and thermal coal.
CIMIC chief executive officer Michael Wright said: Thiess has a long-standing partnership with QCoal and the Thiess team has provided expert planning and optimum mine sequencing to deliver consistent outcomes for our client.
Thiess has a long history operating at Collinsville, having operated Collinsville coal mine from 1996 to 2013. It first commences operations at QCoal Northern Hub in 20017.

Thiess will start work under the new contract in July 2018.
